Hunter offers two new products

Hunter Irrigation is expanding its TTS line of golf rotors with the introduction of the G900 Series, a premium large turf rotor that combines time-tested and proven components with excellent serviceability.

To be introduced at the 2006 Golf Industry Show in Atlanta, the G900 Series utilizes the popular G90 Series gear drive and inlet valve all packaged in a robust totally top serviceable body assembly.

Like the G800 Series, all new rotors feature Total Top Servicing. With TTS, every serviceable component is housed in the body and accessible from the top, eliminating the need to excavate the surrounding turf. Unlike traditional golf rotors, TTS includes the pilot valve, pressure regulator, solenoid and solenoid connections. Its unique integrated inlet valve enables a one-step removal of the valve, valve seat and rock screen.

Other features of the G900 Series include:

  • A heavy-duty upper snap ring with integrated wiper seal
  • Pressure Port technology, to deliver uniform and consistent water coverage in a wide range of flow and radiuses
  • A closed-case design, to help prevent sticking risers and leaking seals

The new G900 Series comes in two models: the G990 full-circle rotor, and the G995 with a 40 to 360 degree adjustable arc. All models feature interchangeable color-coded nozzles with flows up to 70 GPM and spacing up to 95 feet.

The company is also introducing a new advanced, fully expandable field controller engineered with industrial-grade quality while being extremely user-friendly.

The new AGC will be offered in a two-wire decoder model as well as a conventional system, meeting the needs of golf superintendents who are installing two-wire systems.

Notable features and highlights of Hunter's new AGC include:

  • A 120VA transformer with a 14-solenoid capacity and automatic circuit protection that operates on either 120 or 230 volts, e nhanced surge protection
  • A user-friendly dial
  • Fully independent automatic programs plus four custom manual programs
  • A large backlit LCD display with multi-text screen capability
  • Communications capabilities that can be expanded with snap-in modules
  • Remote control from a UHF portable radio
  • Non-volatile, 100-year memory

The decoder version of AGC can operate up to 99 stations from a single controller, over a single pair of wires out to 15,000 feet (4.5km). It offers benefits such as less use of copper wire, reduced installation time and simplified diagnostics when compared with most conventional systems.

The new products are expected to be available this spring. http://www.HunterIndustries.com.

Mid-Tech offers affordable GPS guidance

Midwest Technologies says its new CenterLine 220 is a versatile and simple GPS guidance system that provides a compact, economical solution for landscape/turf professionals interested in lightbar guidance but unable to justify the expense.

The unit features both straight-line (parallel) and curved AB modes of operation and its large graphical display clearly shows off-track direction and distance. In addition, the display provides the operator with swath number, ground speed, selected guidance mode and whether a return point has been stored. An alternate map page shows a bird's-eye view of the vehicle position and heading in relation to the desired path.

Its compact design offers easy portability from vehicle to vehicle, and it is operational as soon as it is connected to a power source.

The system features an internal, WAAS-compatible GPS receiver, with 5 Hz position update, in a durable housing with a sealed rubber keypad. A small external GPS antenna connects to the unit and is mounted on the vehicle roof. Additionally, the unit provides a GPS -derived vehicle speed as a RADAR compatible ground speed signal for use with other control systems. Contact http://www.mid-tech.com.

Bandit upgrades paint finish

Bandit Industries has announced that it upgraded to new paint process using Imron Polyurethane paint with new urethane zinc and epoxy primers for its chipper and stump grinder lines.

And updated paint room provides revolutionary processes, which paint department manager Rod Grandy says, “provides the best finish possible for all of our chippers and stumpers.”

Bandit Industries begins with pickled steel that has been cleaned of impurities such as dirt, oil and mill scale to ensure good paint adhesion.

Before they are painted, the assembled machines are washed with a high-temperature alkaline cleaner and phosphoric acid wash that process etches the steel and leaves behind a rust inhibitor.

After priming, the final step of the paint process is the application of industrial polyurethane enamel, Imron 5000, to ensure a high-gloss, durable finish.

Special paint colors are also available in Imron paint at a very reasonable price. Visit http://www.banditchippers.com to view available paint color options.

Bell introduces Rodent Rid for outdoor control

Bell Laboratories, Inc. has a new pesticide to control outdoor pests: Rodent Rid.

Developed to control voles, pocket gophers and ground squirrels, Rodent Rid has a broad label for use on lawns, golf courses, parks, ornamental and non-bearing fruit tree plantations, nurseries and other non-crop areas.

A restricted-use pesticide, the product contains 2-percent zinc phosphide formulated with human food-grade ingredients for a highly palatable bait that completes well with food in the animals' natural environment.

Depending upon the location, the bait can be either broadcast or hand applied. Once consumed, the bait acts quickly, killing pests in as little as 24 hours.

It is similar to Bell's ZP Rodent Bait AG which has a broad use label for large operations outdoors and is only available in 50 lb. bags. Rodent Rid was developed for smaller applications on a select number of outdoor pests and comes in a convenient 3-lb. pail that is easy-to-carry and reseals tightly to keep bait fresh and free from odor contamination. OSHA offers new worker safety resources

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced the availability of two new resources on the agency's Web site: an assistance tool for workers and employers in the tree care industry, and a new advanced search engine that allows users to search topics in a variety of targeted areas.

"These new tools provide useful and more readily-accessible information that will help employers, employees and businesses stay safe, healthy, and successful," said Jonathan L. Snare, acting assistant secretary of labor for OSHA.

The new Safety and Health Topics Page is a product of an alliance the agency had with the Tree Care Industry Association. Users can access information to develop and implement comprehensive safety and health programs, and learn how to recognize and address potential industry hazards, including overhead power lines, falling branches, and faulty safety equipment. The page also provides information and links to OSHA standards, compliance directives, interpretations of OSHA standards, and national consensus standards related to the tree care industry.

The new search engine allows users to conduct topical or keyword searches in various sections of the Web site, such as standards, compliance directives, interpretations, small business, training, and many other areas. Searches can be limited to one area or expanded to many different areas of the site.

When a subject is entered into the new search tool, users are provided a list of the top links for any issue as well as additional search options on a subject.
